Alternative rock band Soul Asylum with special guests, Seven Mary Three, Sponge and Days of The New will perform at DTE Energy Music Theatre on Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets at $35.50 pavilion and $10 lawn go on sale this Thursday, July 2 at 10 a.m. at Palacenet.com, The Palace and DTE Energy Music Theatre Box Offices and all Ticketmaster locations. Ground breaking alternative rock band Soul Asylum was formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1983. The group originated as an outgrowth from the band Loud Fast Rules formed in 1981. The band gained national recognition in 1992 when they released their major label debut album, Grave Dancers Union, which was certified double-platinum in 1993. Their popularity grew with the album’s third single, “Runaway Train,” which reached number five on the Billboard’s 100 Top-Selling Albums chart. The hit song was used as a Public Service Announcement to locate teen runaways and won a Grammy Award for the best rock song in 1994. Following the death of founding member/bassist Karl Mueller in 2005, Soul Asylum released its ninth full length album The Silver Lining (2006), its first release in seven years. Soul Asylum’s current roster includes original members Dave Pirner (guitar and vocals)and Dan Murphy (guitar and vocals) along with Michael Bland (drums and vocals), Tommy Stinson (bass and vocals) and George McKelvey (bass). Seven Mary Three was formed in 1992 by Jason Ross and Jason Pollock while attending the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. In 1995 the band reached platinum status with their album, American Standard, on the strength of the top 40 hit single “Cumbersome.” In 2008, the band re-released its debut album, Churn. Present members of the band include Ross, Casey Daniel, Thomas Juliano and Mike Levesque. Emerging out of Detroit, grunge band Sponge gained international fame with the debut album Rotting Pinata. The gold selling album featured hits “Plowed” and “Molly (16 Candles).” Their most recent album Galore, was released in 2007. The group consists of Vinnie Dombroski (vocals), Andy Patalan (guitar), Billy Adams (drums), Kyle Neely (guitar) and Tim Krukowski (bass). Days of The New formed in Charlestown, Indiana in 1995. The group’s self-titled debut album went platinum with the first single, “Touch, Peel and Stand,” which hit number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
