In 1967, vocalist Peter Wolf and drummer Stephen Jo Bladd, former band members of the group Hallucinations, teamed with guitarist J. Geils, harpist and harmonica specialist Magic Dick and bassist Danny Klein, who were performing acoustically as the J. Geils Blues Band, and formed the J. Geils Band. Keyboard player and composer Seth Justman joined the band in 1968.

During the early 1970s, the band toured extensively, became local favorites, and produced numerous Top 40 hits, including “Looking for a Love,” off the band’s self-titled 1971 debut effort, “Give It to Me,” from the album Bloodshot (1973) and “Must of Got Lost.”

In 1977, the band briefly changed its name to Geils and released the album Monkey Island, their first self-produced effort.

After restoring its name and switching record labels, the J. Geils Band released Sanctuary (1978), which was certified gold, and followed with the platinum effort, Love Stinks (1980).

Their second platinum album, Freeze-Frame, topped the charts in 1981 on the strength of the number one smash hit “Centerfold” and the Top Five track “Freeze-Frame.”

The J. Geils Band’s “Exclusive Saturday Night House Party End of Summer Blow Your Face Out” show is part of the Belle Tire Concert Series.
