The Stylistics formed in 1968, when members of two Philadelphia soul groups joined forces. In 1970, the group recorded “You’re a Big Girl Now,” which peaked at number seven on Billboard’s Black Singles chart. A year later the group released their self-titled debut album, which featured the top 10 hits “You Are Everything” and “Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart).” In 1972, they released their follow up album entitled Round 2, which peaked at number three on Billboard’s Black Albums chart and featured the top 10 hit “Break Up To Make Up.” Most recently, the group released the album The Same Way.

Current members include founding member Airrion Love along with Eban Brown, Van Fields and Herbert Murrell.

Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes formed under the name The Blue Notes in 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group recorded for a number of different labels and created a few hit songs in the 1960s including “My Hero” and “Get Out (and Let Me Cry).”

Over the course of their career the group’s original line up changed frequently, but they still were able to release numerous number one hits on the U.S. R&B charts including “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” which was up for a Grammy nomination, “The Love I Lost (Pt. 1),” “Hope That We Can Be Together Soon” and “Wake Up Everybody (Pt. 1).”

Current members include Donnell “Big Daddy” Gillespie (lead vocals), Anthony Brooks, Rufus Thorne and John Morris.

The Main Ingredient featuring Cuba Gooding, Sr. posted their first million-selling single with “Everybody Plays the Fool,” which hit number three on the pop singles chart and peaked at number two on Billboard’s R&B chart in 1972. They returned to the R&B top 10 with their third album, Euphrates River (1974), which included a cover of Ronnie Dyson’s 1973 hit “I Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely.”

In 1978, Gooding released his solo debut The First Cuba Gooding Album. Gooding released another solo album in 1993 entitled Meant to Be in Love. His latest album Euphrates River was released in 2005.

“70’s Soul Jam” featuring The Stylistics, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes and Cuba Gooding, Sr. of The Main Ingredient is part of the Belle Tire Concert Series.
